"The service and food here are fabulous. Breakfast is a solid “clear plate” every time. The home fried potatoes cannot be beat. Vast selection of breads to pick from for toast. Many yummy specials so it’s hard to decide what to eat. The servers are so friendly but also quick. There is a certain charm about this place, as if you have stepped back in time. At breakfast, there are locals sitting around, solving the problems of the world, chatting and happy to include you if you want to become one of the crew. The only reason I give this place four stars is because it needs a good deep cleaning, especially the restrooms. I know it is a classic place from a time gone by, but it needs a little TLC."

"I recently visited the Breakfast Connection in Branford, CT, and overall, it was a decent experience with a few notable areas for improvement. The food itself was quite good. I ordered the classic eggs benedict, which was delicious, and my friend had the pancakes, which were fluffy and flavorful. The menu offers a nice variety of breakfast options, and the portion sizes are generous, providing good value for the price. However, the service left something to be desired. While the staff were friendly, our coffee cups were not refilled during our visit, which was a bit disappointing. Additionally, when it came time to settle the bill, the handwritten check was difficult to read and follow, making the payment process more cumbersome than it should have been. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming, which makes for a pleasant dining atmosphere. Despite the service hiccups, the quality of the food and the inviting environment made our breakfast enjoyable. In conclusion, the Breakfast Connection has the potential to be a great breakfast spot with a few service improvements. If the staff were more attentive to refilling drinks and the billing process were streamlined, it would significantly enhance the overall dining experience. I would still recommend it for the good food and comfortable setting, but with the hope that these service issues will be addressed in the future."

Breaking the Fast: A History

Breakfast has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Once simply a meal to break the overnight fast, it evolved significantly over centuries. In colonial America, breakfast often included hearty options like porridge and cider, reflecting the agricultural lifestyle of the time. As the nation grew and industrialized in the 19th century, the concept of breakfast shifted dramatically. Wealthy Americans began to mimic the lavish full English breakfasts, filling their tables with bacon, eggs, and more. This transformation marked the start of breakfast as not just nourishment but a social and cultural ritual.
