"Incredible. The food was amazing, but the service was better than any I have ever had when dining with a difficult child. We have a one year old that started acting up almost immediately, and they took us to a quiet part of the restaurant, brought over a bag of toys for her and she had the time of her life. The food was as good as it gets- home made corned beef hash, bread pudding French toast, incredible pancakes- but they were so kind to my daughter it really transcends any dining experience I ever had. Thank you so much."

"2nd visit as good as the first. You can't beat breakfast at Drago's. Everything is cooked fresh and perfectly. The prices are reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. We had a delightful conversation with the owner who is clearly passionate about his craft. I need to go back to try lunch there."

"I recently had lunch here and found their classic American sandwiches to be good, with the chef not being afraid of adding some spice to the dishes. My Reuben had something extra spicy in the sauce which I really enjoyed (but some might not) and the corn beef itself was outstanding. I found the coleslaw to be slightly on the salty side (and I like salt) but pretty good. The homemade chips were awesome. My wife had the roast beef sandwich with the French dip and it was also quite good. Service was excellent. The space was clean, fresh and pleasant. I will return to try breakfast!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the corned beef hash really homemade?

Yes. Reviewers specifically say the corned beef hash is homemade and "real, not from a can," which means you can expect a fresh, chunky hash with cooked potatoes and seasoned beef rather than a processed mix.

What do the cheddar biscuits taste like?

People mention the cheddar biscuits as savory and buttery with a pronounced cheese flavor. They often come alongside breakfast plates and can be rich and slightly crumbly, pairing well with eggs or gravy.

Are there vegan breakfast choices?

Yes. Multiple reviewers praise vegan options, including a vegan sandwich that was rated highly. Expect plant-based patties or sausage substitutes and thoughtful flavor combos like maple aioli with vegan sausage.

How is the pancakes or French toast described?

Pancakes are called "incredible" by at least one reviewer, and the bread pudding French toast also drew praise. That suggests thick, tender slices or stacks with good texture and balanced sweetness.

Does the breakfast burger have any special sauce?

Yes. The breakfast burger is noted for a maple aioli that adds sweet-savory contrast, and some reviews mention a pleasing sweet-and-spicy interplay when combined with sausage or other toppings.

Are there gluten-free options for people with allergies?

How spicy are the sandwich sauces, like on the Reuben?

What pizzas are most popular at Drago's Kitchen?

From the menu, people often pick Vegetable Omelet, Pancakes, French Toast, Homemade Corned Beef Hash, Dad’S Chicken and Waffles, Ham Bacon and Cheese Omelette. Reviews highlight consistency more than novelty, so these are safe, crowd-pleasing choices.

Breakfast: A Historical Overview

Breakfast has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Centuries ago, it was a simple meal designed to break the overnight fast, often consisting of leftover porridge or bread. As time marched on, particularly in the 19th century, breakfast began to take on a more significant role. Affluent families in America sought opulent spreads of bacon, eggs, and other hearty fare, mirroring lavish English breakfasts. This shift wasn’t just about food; it reflected changing social norms and the growing importance of breakfast as a daily ritual that brought families together each morning.

Connecticut's Breakfast Traditions

In Connecticut, breakfast traditions have been shaped by both cultural influences and local ingredients. Early settlers often began their day with hearty fare, such as cornmeal porridge or cider, which was a staple on many frontier farms. As the state developed, these customs evolved into lighter breakfast options, influenced by health reformers in the 19th century who advocated for more nutritious, less heavy meals. Today, Connecticut's breakfast reflects its rich agricultural heritage, with locally sourced ingredients often taking center stage.
