Customer Reviews
"One of the best brunches I’ve had in a long time! The Parkside had a huge menu with so many creative options for sandwiches, sweets, drinks, and more. Our personal favorite was the kielbasa sandwich (Spanky’s revenge), but everything was fresh and high quality. Our server and the owners were incredibly kind, checking in often and making us feel right at home. Cute decor, and it just felt like such a welcoming neighborhood spot. I hope guy Fieri would consider the Parkside next time he’s in CT for Triple D!"
"We spent two nights in Bristol on our way to Massachusetts and on our last day found Parkside Cafe. It has a great atmosphere, and the service was terrific. As soon as you walk in, you are pleasantly greeted by the staff. There is something for everyone on this menu. At our table, the kids all had pancakes, which were delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the "5150" which was a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, which came between two waffles with some greens, red onion, and a fried egg. The homefries, bacon, side of ham, and English muffins were all amazing. Our waitress was very attentive and went above and beyond. We do travel to New England pretty frequently, and this visit to Parkside Cafe with its amazing food and staff will become a regular spot to stop at along the way."
"We were passing through town and found the Parkside Cafe by pure chance. We are so glad we stopped in! Delicious food, WONDERFUL service - everyone was friendly as can be! The corned beef hash was exceptional and the pancakes were fantastic. Our servers were so kind and thoughtful, and they even helped us with directions around town. Thanks a bunch! It was a pleasure."
"If I could give 6 stars for service I would. Deb and I stopped by for breakfast and I felt like this is the place to be, definitely trendy but for a good reason, great owners and service. We were sat in a nice room to the side of the hustle and bustle. We were treated like royalty. The servers had good perception. We ordered our normal breakfast, however the toasted muffin and corned beef hash stood out as well above the norm. Everything was great! Very satisfied and we can't wait to try their 3 other bristol restaurants."

From Simple Porridge to Pancakes
Breakfast has come a long way from its humble beginnings. In colonial Connecticut, morning meals often started with simple porridge made from cornmeal or oats, a nod to the area’s agrarian roots. This basic fare was practical, as it provided a hearty start to the day’s labor. Over time, as cultures blended and food availability changed, pancakes became a popular breakfast choice, especially during the 19th century. These fluffy treats were made using local ingredients, such as milk and eggs from nearby farms, reflecting the state’s agricultural bounty and the creative spirit of its people.

Health Trends Shape Breakfast Choices
By the 19th century, breakfast trends started shifting as health reformers encouraged lighter, healthier meals. In Connecticut, this movement led to the popularization of foods like fresh fruit, yogurt, and granola. These changes were influenced by the growing understanding of nutrition and wellness, as people began to focus on how food affected their health. As breakfast became a time for nourishing the body rather than just filling the stomach, many Connecticut residents embraced these healthier options, paving the way for the modern breakfast choices we see today.
